Violence, Terror and Islamophobia in the US: Making Sense of Tragedy

EVENT: Violence, Terror and Islamophobia in the US: Making Sense of Tragedy

Las Vegas, New York, Texas.  Close to a 100 people have died and hundreds more injured in 3 attacks within a little over the space of a month.  Individual acts of mass violence have become a new normal in the US.

Trump and the ruling class, however, have used these tragedies to push for racist laws that scapegoat immigrants and Muslims, and bolster the logic of the US ruling class that is used to justify wars abroad and police oppression at home.

But socialists understand that violence is an inherent part of how capitalism functions and how the ruling class maintains control.  Acts of individual violence are reflections of the violence of an oppressive and unequal system.

Join the UC Berkeley ISO in a discussion on violence in a capitalist society.
