EVENT: Free Speech and Anti-Racist Struggle
The “alt-right” and one of their most visible demagogues, Milo Yiannopoulos, have again targeted UC Berkeley as the center for their campaign to push hate filled ideology, all the while cloaking their bile under the name of “free speech” in order to hide their racism, sexism, Islamaphobia and homophobia, and to deride the tens of thousands of people who have been protesting against their hate, especially after a neo-Nazi murdered activist Heather Heyer, sparking massive protests from Boston to Berkeley.
Meanwhile protesters in St Louis, who have been taking to the streets after the not-guilty verdict of ex-cop Jason Stockley who murdered Anthony Lamar Smith in 2011, have faced the full brunt of the state, with riot police using tear gas, pepper spray, mass arrests to crack down on people tired of police violence and racism.
While the far right obfuscates it’s hate under free speech, the actual free speech of activists fighting oppression is routinely trampled on by the state. The need to combine and connect the fight against the far right and exposing their lies, and the fight for the liberation of the oppressed has become all the more clear.
Join the International Socialist Organization in a discussion on free speech and the struggle against racism. Fight the right, build the left, join the socialists.
